VoicerOnePBX Documentation

Everything you need to install, administer, use, and extend VoicerOnePBX — a complete, self-contained business phone system that runs on a single Mac.

VoicerOnePBX turns one Mac into a complete business phone system — technically an IP-PBX, meaning a phone system that runs over your internet/office network instead of old copper phone wiring. It registers desk phones and softphones (phone apps that run on a computer or in a web browser), connects to phone-service providers over SIP or IAX2, answers incoming calls with automated menus, groups of phones and call queues, runs conferences, sends and receives faxes, transcribes calls and voicemail, and lets you drive it all from a modern admin screen — or from your own software through a documented interface.

New to phone systems?

You don't need a telecom background to follow these guides. Wherever we use a technical term you'll see it underlined with dots — hover or tap it for a one-line plain-English definition, or browse them all on the Glossary page.

These docs use a drill-down structure: start with an overview, pick the area you care about, and each step down gives you progressively more detail — right down to firewall ports, provisioning file formats, and API payloads.

Where to start

Typical scenarios

Not sure where to dig in? Find the setup closest to yours and jump straight to the features that tend to matter most for it.

Just me

Tradesperson · sole trader · home business

Sound like a bigger operation than one phone. Greet callers professionally, never miss a job, and switch to "we're closed" after hours — automatically.

Small office

2–10 people

Everyone on an extension, calls shared across the team, and a tidy front door for callers — without an IT department.

Medical / Dental

Clinics & practices

Privacy-first by design — recordings and transcripts stay on your Mac. Handle referrals by fax, remind patients, and never lose a call at reception.

Large office

50+ staff · contact centre

Scale, fairness and visibility: line callers up, distribute to agents, coach in real time, and report on all of it. Proven to 300 concurrent calls on one Mac.

Software developer

Integrating VoicerOnePBX into your own app

A programmable phone platform — react to events, script calls, and move messages, all over documented, authenticated interfaces. Your likely checklist:

What makes it different

Self-contained

One signed, notarized macOS app. No Asterisk, no Linux server to babysit, no external database.

Private by design

Your calls, recordings and transcriptions stay on your Mac. Transcription runs on-device.

Standards-based

Uses the same open standards the phone industry does — SIP and IAX2 for calls, standard G.711/G.722 audio codecs, and T.38 for fax — so it works with mainstream phones and providers.

Proven at scale

Load-tested to 300 concurrent calls (600 legs) on a single Mac with a one-hour endurance soak.
