Your New Extension

Welcome! Your extension is your personal number on the office phone system — usually three or four digits, like 101. This short guide covers the everyday basics.

Making & taking calls

  • Call a colleague — dial their extension number.
  • Call outside — dial the number as you normally would (your admin will tell you if you need a 9 for an outside line first).
  • Answer — lift the handset or tap answer. That's it.

Handling a call

  • Hold — put the caller on hold (they'll hear music) and pick back up when ready.
  • Transfer — send the call to someone else. "Blind" transfer hands it over straight away; "attended" lets you talk to your colleague first. See Feature Codes.
  • Conference — pull a third person into the call.

Voicemail & more

Missed a call? It goes to your voicemail — set up your greeting and get email alerts in Configuring Voicemail. Prefer your web browser to a desk phone? See Browser Access. Need to step away? Turn on Do Not Disturb.

Star codes

Short codes starting with * trigger handy features — record a call, pick up a ringing phone, log into a queue. The full list is on the Feature Codes page.
